Composition shingles are attractive, very durable, and most often are the least expensive option. The manufacturer product warranties on shingles range from 20 years to Lifetime. They are often manufactured with additives to combat against algae and moss growth; UV degradation; and resistance to cracking, splitting, blistering, peeling, warping, and undue discoloration. They also offer a wide range of styles and colors.

Composition shingles can be separated into 3 categories: 3-Tab (also called strip shingles), Laminates (also called architectural or dimensional), and Premiums.
