Composition Roofs
A composition roof, or shingle roof as it is commonly known, is the most frequently used roofing material in residential applications. Composition shingles are attractive, very durable, and most often are the least expensive option. The manufacturer product warranties on shingles range from 20 years to Lifetime. They are often manufactured with additives to combat against algae and moss growth; UV degradation; and resistance to cracking, splitting, and blistering. They come in a wide range of styles and colors, and some even qualify as Energy Star rated products.
In addition, to help combat hail damage, some shingles now offer Class IV impact resistant ratings, the highest rating offered in roofing products.
Composition shingles can be separated into 3 categories: 3-Tab (also called strip shingles), Laminates (also called architectural or dimensional), and Premiums.
