With its sleek modern architecture and timeless finishes, The Stella Hotel is truly one-of-a-kind. Completed in 2017, it was the first independent full-service hotel in Bryan-College Station, Texas. The Stella Hotel anchors Lake Walk, the vibrant 180,000 square-foot town center of ATLAS, and the Traditions Club. The 176-key property is next to Traditions Club and Community and Texas A&M University, where it’s at the epicenter of the Texas A&M Biocorridor.
The architect’s vision for the roof required several elevations, slopes, and material combinations to cover the 43,757 square foot hotel. Its unique design was key to the hotel’s differentiation as Bryan-College Station’s first independent full-service hotel.
Challenges
To build the beautiful, multi-tiered, durable roof, we had to source 3 different material types and unify them as a commercial assembly. The carefully planned concrete deck we created for the metal-BUR-TPO assembly required moisture testing by on-staff experts. To aid in the construction of the 6-story hotel, we relied on cranes to move and place materials. Because of the property’s proximity to Easterwood Airport, we required FAA clearance for specially-trained operators.
Solutions
Our approach started with collaboration and a consultation with the architect. We provided product documentation, specifications, project management approaches, and streamlined the new construction of the commercial roof assembly by obtaining FAA clearance for certified crane operators ahead of time. We also provided concrete experts who could perform onsite moisture testing. This reduced the wait time for assembly installation. Because of the workmanship, materials, and architectural design, extended warranty coverage was also applied to the hotel’s assembly.
